Compositae, Ceramics-Exhibition of Maria Jansa - Austria

Raku-ware, a perennial-nursery amidst of nowhere in the fog. A herbaceous plant nurserey in hibernation. On a fogy, cold first of January I was invited to a vernissage from a friendly ceramist. I was going there from my sunny hometown, dived into the fog and wanted to do only "some" photographs. Suddenly I dived in the stillness of hibernation of plants, a perennial-nursery. I dived into an atmosphere, dimension and came out after a concert, speaches, frosty after hours?, days?, years?. I was livened up and stimulated from this experience, that I made straightaway a book.

Granite at the Gotthard - Switzerland

Faces of Granite - bathed in Water Wind and Clouds.

On a hike, starting point was the pass of Gotthard, I did a photo journey over the foot pass Sella into the Unteralptal back to Andermatt. The sun bathed mountains of granit at the morning, the total wind calm, a rarity in the mountains at this season, a cloudy sunny landscape over the midday, and a mountain-thunderstorm at the evening was the endpoint.

The atmosphere of the light, the rocks, the rushing water, fast running clouds over the sky, a unique atmospheric journey through polymorphic rocks, plants, which only grow on this underground, layering of the rocks, washed out from water, crushed to small pieces from frost and ice. A hike is everytime a unique story and would be different by a second time.

Iceland - a continent

Island ein Kontinent

In summer 2015 I have done a round-trip through Iceland. The special light of Iceland has totally caught my senses and I would like to go back there immediatly. Also the smell of sulphur reaches my nose, when I look at the photopgraphs. The variety of the landscape can I only describe, that I have given the book the title " Iceland - a continent". It is a storybook, that gives only a small part of the fascination for Iceland.

Juist - Clouds Sand Sea - Germany

An island at the Northsea - Athmospheres of the weather and the light throuhg the whole time of day.

Already as a child I spent the summer hollydays at the Northsea on one of the "ostfriesischen" islands. Later as an adult I was over and over again drawn to one of these islands, Juist. An island with almost no cars, with horses and horse-drawn vehicles. The rhythm of the sea, with high tide and low tide.

The changes in weather are for me every time amazing, storms, rain, sun. Over the island roaring winds are an impressiv experience. It was rarely wind calm in my memories. So was my continental live blown out of my body and I could recover me with contemplating the natur and the weather atmosphere. The photographs of this book were made at my last but not least visit on the island.

Sibiu - Romania

The travel to Sibiu in Romania in 2015 was a travel into a different dimension. My hotel was a little bit out of the older town and so I had to do a walk to get into the older main part. My way was along forests, all oak-forests, maybe like in older days in middle-europe. After the forests I got to a memorial cemetery from the second World War and following the cemetery of today.

The way does not necesseraly lead through these places, but for me it is every time interesting to walk through cemeteries. Sometimes it reveals something about the culture of a town or a country. Here in Sibiu the graves were out of concrete with plastic flowers on it.

You will find more of the impressions in the book.

The area of Sulzer at Winterthur - Switzerland

A town in upheaval - Dismantling - Reconstruction - Demolition - Building. A face alters. The origin town of the Swiss heavy industrie, steel cooking, steel production, making of different products like ships, locomitives, enginges for deap-sea vessels, demanded space as well as humans. It gave the humans work, money, an outcome. The big area was like a small town in the town and its function has come to an end. The production plants were shut down. A lot of buildings were empty, had come to life with new businesses or get a total different utilization. I did a documentation about this upheaval which is still going on. Some buildings or groups of buildings do not exist anymore or have a new form and purpose.

Upright Format in Colour

Upright format got me out of my comfort zone. I was used to make my pictures in horizontal format, because I did a lot of landscape and nature portraits. Portraits of humans are preferably in upright format. How would it be, to photograph landscapes and nature in upright format? Where I possibly avoided to have people in my photographs, suddenly they turn up, not as main object, but to add a new dimension.

In upright format the observer can not make way out to the rihgt or left, but only to the upper or lower side. A logic consequence of the built up of our eyes, side by side. It is building up a nearness to the photographed object, that has irritated me in the beginning, then I was used to observe things at a distance. So was I leaving my comfort zone. An interesting experience with portraits in upright format.

Winterthur by Night

To photograph in the night in the town were I live is a way to explore it from a different side. The noise of the day is gone and everything withdraws into the inner side. The objects are now lighted up from the inside and get so its own vividness, dependent on the light colour of the warmth of the light source. So arise only with the difference of the lihgt warmth of the sources outstanding paintings.

The town gets a new, different face. Ohter things get more important or the othwer way around.
